About the Artist
At the SOA Galleries I was able to meet Dulce Ibarra. Her exhibition was the Manos De Oro. Ibarra’s pieces from her gallery are expressed and inspired by her father. Ibarra is currently at CSULB and working on her BFA in the sculpture program. She is 25 years old from Chino, California and the only artist in her family.
Formal Analysis
Dulce Ibarra’s art work appealed to my interest of how her work stood out. The pieces in her gallery were all spread out in the room. The lawn mower is placed in the center of the room painted in gold just like the rest of the tools. The gardening tools are placed against the wall crossing each other. Also a video was displayed about Ibarra’s father working hard as a gardener mowing the lawn.
Content Analysis
The gardening tools from Ibarra’s exhibition represented the importance of a persons hands and how much value it has as a labor worker. Ibarra’s work is mainly inspired by her father in the exhibit. At first Ibarra was embarrassed by her father’s job as a gardener but later realized the great value of his hard work. She expresses how her father taught her that hard work is what keeps a person move forward and becoming successful.
Synthesis
I was very intrigued by Ibarra’s work in the gallery. Her work was very meaningful and inspiring fro what she as learned from her father. The pieces laid out and painted in gold gave it a good appearance. The way she expresses the background of her story relating to the work she has displayed in the gallery. Gives a significance from the exhibition about her parents who have worked hard to give the best for Ibarra’s family.
